In June of 2017 I spent 2 and a half weeks at The Farm and Fiddle in Santa, Fe Tennessee. It was an amazing small farm just outside of Nashville that was fully supporting itself on its produce. Farmer Sam and her fiddle playing husband, Daniel, had a CSA (community supported agriculture) which helped them raise the funds to sustain their entire season. They sold at farmers markets and to the restaurants in Nashvilles thriving foods scene. 

I did a lot of different tasks around the farm. From morning rounds to the animals- feeding and giving them water- to milking the cows, to tending to the crops.  I spent a few days pruning tomato plants to help guide their growth and channel nutrients to the fruit of the plant. After a few hours of pruning, I looked at my  hand and noticed a thick coating of green residue. Anyone who has spent much time with tomato plants knows this coating. It is now known to me as Tomato Hands- that's what the farm hand called it- and it made my hands smell AMAZING. Tomato hands and my introduction to tomato Hornworms (photo below) had me fully locked in on tomatoes. The way my hands smelled for hours after washing away tomato hands got me fully hooked. I fell in love with Tomatoes.

When I got back from my travels and really dove into my new relationship with food, I kept coming back to tomatoes. I grew tomatoes in my garden plot, mostly snacking on the cherry tomatoes while I was in the garden. My CSA share was filled with more tomatoes than I knew what to do with. So I started playing, and Tommy Jam was born. 

I absolutely LOVE Tommy Jam. That is why I decided it would be the debut product for the Eltee’s Goods brand. It is so tasty. It is versatile. It will make ANY dish better. I love when customers approach me and tell me how they are using Tommy Jam in their kitchen- and that application had never occurred to me. TJ never stops surprising me and its uses grow daily.
